Christmas and New Year on San Cristobal Galapagos

Christmas and New Year are celebrated differently on the Galapagos. On Christmas Eve we set off from the station and checked in at Casa de Laura (a beautiful hostal in the port). We spent the day on the internet and phoning home. The evening was spent with Miguel (from the station), his family and friends.

We found it all a bit strange celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve but when in Rome...

On Cristmas Day we went snorkelling at Kicker Rock again. This time we saw Galapagos Sharks, Black Tip Reef Sharks and the infamous and elusive Hammerheads. It was brilliant!

After Christmas it was back to Jatun Sacha station for our final week. Before leaving the station it is customary to add some artwork. This is Paul's artwork...

Flamingo in puddles - there wasn't enough blue paint.

My artwork is displayed in the new shower that Miguel built during our last week.

The new shower and toilet block that Miguel built (Miguel is the one in red).

My artwork was in the style of Rolf Harris (for those who know of him), using a large brush and a wall.

On our last night we sat around the camp fire and then went to the bar.

On New Year's Eve, we said goodbye to the dogs and staff and then we travelled down to the port to Laura's to wait for the festivities to start at midnight.

New Years Eve , waiting for our dinner.
We wandered around town looking at the mannequins. It is a traditional to make a mannequin and burn it at midnight to see off the old year.
