First we visited the petroglyph site we were unable to visit the day before. The petroglyphs here have been whitened so that they are easier to see, but it does make them look they were carved recently. What do you think?

Then we travelled clockwise from Hanga Roa via Viatea to Anakena and Tongariki. The weather was bad so most of the pictures were taken from the car. Here are a selection for you to peruse.
Tongariki |
A fallen Moai - check to see if its eyes have been carved. If the eye sockets are carved the Moai would have been erected on a platform. |
The Moai quarry |

These stone circles were used for plant as the structures provided a micro-climate in which the plants could grow. |
On our last day we returned the car and relaxed at the camp. Our plane was delayed so we had a chance to see one last sunset from the campsite.

The Chilean Navy were in port also waiting for the sunset |
Not a Rapa Nui ceremony just Roger burning the rubbish. |
The moon is rising |
At 2 am we got on the plane to Tahiti arriving at 2am even though the plane was 5 hours. As we were only staying for one day we spent the day in the park by the beach. Whilst Paul was dozing I nicked the camera and took some photos of the views and wildlife.
